Walking in the UK
A collection of Long Distance Paths, some old, some new, and some shorter walks.
View to Hundleshope Heights from an Iron Age Fort on the John Buchan Way.
Shoeburyness to InvernessTrying to be a little different, we decided to collect and connect our walks into one Long Distance Path.
Work in progress
Shoeburyness to the Thames barrier |
Tilbury Ferry Variant |
Thames Path |
There is no entirely obvious route for this. It took roughly 200 miles of walking, mostly during the lockdown years, to determine the best path. |
Should the Tilbury Ferry become operational, this is a good alternative. |
A well known route with good transport links, making it fairly easy to do as day trips for the most part. |
Thames – Severn Way |
Upper Framilode to Chepstow |
Offa's Dyke |
A short easy walk. |
Another short walk, this we developed to connect the Thames-Severn Way with Offa’s Dyke. |
A very interesting walk, including the fantastic Hergest Ridge. |
Edale to Prestatyn |
Pennine Way (take 2) |
Kirk Yetholm to Milngavie |
This is a route we developed to connect Offa’s Dyke with the Pennine Way. |
One of the more arduous LDPs, rewarded with some spectacular scenery, when it isn’t raining. |
Another route we developed. This time connecting the Pennine Way with the West Highland Way. |
West Highland Way |
Great Glen Way |
|
A fairly comfortable LDP, despite containing the Devil’s Staircase. |
For the most part a canal and lochside walk, with some good hill walking after Drumnadrochit. |
|
Others
More LDPs and shorter walks.
Pennine Way (take one) |
Corrour to Kinlochleven |
Hadrian's Wall Path |
Done as a personal challenge, carrying a fair bit of weight, and prior to the taming of the Cheviots. |
Very remote, if fairly short walk. |
Whilst the first and last days are fairly unexciting, the rest of this walk is excellent, with fabulous views and much history to explore. |
Ridgeway |
|
|
One of the ancient routes in the UK. Surprisingly hard on the feet at times, due to walking directly on chalk. |
